You bought it; we build it — and it genuinely doesn't matter where the kit came from. Amazon, Home Depot, Lowe's, Wayfair, Sam's Club, Costco, Yardistry, Sunjoy, or a no-name kit you found online: if it's in boxes in the driveway, we'll put it together. The brand on the box changes the parts, not the job, and the instructions don't have to be any good.

What we do: site prep and leveling first (a kit built on an unlevel base ends up out of square, with doors and screens that don't line up), then full assembly, then anchoring it down. We sort the hardware, follow the real build sequence, and get the frame square and plumb before the roof goes on. Hardtop gazebo assembly adds its own catch — the metal or polycarbonate roof panels are heavy and awkward, and they have to be aligned and sealed correctly or the roof rattles and leaks.

Instructions and hardware are where the cheaper kits fall down. Poor, badly translated, or missing instructions are common, and so is a kit that shows up short on hardware or with parts that don't match the diagram. Neither slows us down — we work out the real assembly sequence when the booklet won't, source or substitute the hardware a kit is missing, and finish the build rather than leaving you a half-assembled frame in the yard. Custom gazebo builder — designed and built on site

A custom gazebo is designed and built on site instead of coming out of a box, and it's the right path when you want a specific size, shape, or look that no kit sells.

Sizing and layout: built to the space and how you'll use it, from an intimate seating gazebo to a large one that covers a full patio table. Materials: cedar or treated wood for a classic wood gazebo, or metal framing where you want a different look and lower maintenance. Roof style: hip, gable, pagoda, or the classic octagonal roof with a vented cupola, finished in shingles or metal.

How it differs from a kit: a kit is a fixed set of sizes in lighter material with a canopy or hardtop roof, and it's economical and quick. A custom build can be any size and shape, uses heavier framing and real footings, is matched to your house and yard, and lasts longer. One scope note: we build the structure itself. Adding lights or a fan is electrical work and isn't part of what we do.

Anchoring to concrete vs. soil — and what a Houston storm does

This is the most important part of any gazebo in Houston, kit or custom, and it's the step people most often skip.

Anchoring to concrete: on an existing slab or patio, the posts are fixed down with anchor bolts and brackets rated for the structure. It's the strongest, cleanest attachment when there's sound concrete to work with.

Anchoring to soil: with no slab, the structure needs concrete footings or piers, or engineered ground anchors, sized and set for the gazebo and Houston's expansive clay — not just legs sitting on the dirt or on a few pavers.

Why it matters here: an unanchored gazebo is a sail. A lightweight kit, and especially a hardtop roof that catches wind, can shift across the yard, rack out of square, or flip entirely in a Houston thunderstorm or straight-line wind. Every gazebo we assemble or build gets anchored to the ground properly, because in this climate that's the difference between a structure that stays put and one you're chasing after the next storm.

Pavilions and lanais — the larger open-sided version

A pavilion is the bigger, open-sided cousin of the gazebo: a larger footprint with a solid roof — usually gable or hip — open on all sides, built to shelter a full patio, a dining area, or an outdoor seating space. Where a gazebo is usually a smaller freestanding focal point, a pavilion is a room-sized outdoor shelter.

We build pavilions and lanais as site-built custom structures. An outdoor pavilion is the right call when you want to cover real square footage rather than a corner. A lanai is a covered, often screened, outdoor living space that reads as an extension of the house.

Gazebo repair and roof replacement

Gazebos age, and Houston weather is hard on them. We repair existing gazebos — kit or custom — that have started to fail.

Structure: rotted or split posts and beams replaced, wobbly frames re-squared and re-secured, and a structure that was never anchored (or has worked loose) properly anchored down so it stops moving.

Gazebo roof replacement: worn or curling shingles, torn or faded fabric canopy tops, and cracked or clouded hardtop panels replaced. A soft-top canopy that keeps failing can often be upgraded to a hardtop roof so you're not replacing fabric every couple of seasons. Where a roof has been leaking, we track down where the water is getting in — usually a seam, a panel overlap, or flashing at the peak — rather than just recovering it.

We price after seeing the space, but the levers that move a gazebo number are worth understanding:

• Kit or custom — assembling a kit you've bought is a defined job; a custom build designed and framed on site is a different scope
• Size and roof style — a small square gazebo is quick; a large octagonal or hip roof with a cupola is more framing and more cutting
• Material — a canopy kit, a hardtop kit, and a cedar or metal custom build are three different levels of material and labor
• Site prep and the base — a level, sound slab is ready to build on; an unlevel yard, or one with no slab, means leveling, a pad, or footings first
• Anchoring method — bolting to existing concrete is quick; setting footings or piers in clay soil is a real line item here
• Repair vs. new — a roof replacement or a post repair is priced by what's actually damaged
