Tree removal and trimming we handle

We take down trees that have become a liability — dead and dying trees, storm-damaged and leaning ones, and trees too close to the house or foundation — and we trim and prune the ones that stay.

Dead tree removal: a dead tree is a falling hazard on a timer, and it's cheaper and safer to take down on your schedule than after it comes down on the roof. Tree trimming and pruning: clearing limbs off the roof and gutters, raising the canopy, cutting back growth from the house, and removing dead or broken branches. Tree limb removal: taking down the individual limbs that are hanging, cracked, or overhanging where they shouldn't.

Two hard limits, stated plainly: we don't do stump grinding or stump removal, and we don't do any tree work near power lines. More on both below.

Emergency and storm damage tree removal

Houston's storm season is when trees come down, and a tree on or against the house is an emergency. We handle emergency and storm-damage tree removal — a fallen tree across the yard, a tree leaning on the roof or the fence, or limbs brought down by hurricane wind.

After a storm we clear the tree off the structure and out of the way so the property is safe and access is restored, then haul the debris off. Hurricane tree cleanup is a big part of what the season brings — yards full of downed limbs and whole trees — and we clear it. When a tree has come down on the house, the tree removal is step one and the repair to what it damaged is a related job; we handle the removal and can point you to the rebuild side.

Oak and palm tree trimming

Houston's two signature trees each need their own approach.

Oak tree trimming: oaks are worth protecting, and timing matters here because of oak wilt — a disease that spreads through fresh pruning wounds. The general guidance for our area is to avoid pruning oaks during the high-risk window from roughly February through June, and to paint fresh cuts. We prune oaks with that in mind rather than cutting whenever and hoping. Palm tree trimming: removing dead and browning fronds and seed pods and cleaning up the crown, which keeps a palm looking right and drops the fire and wind risk of a skirt of dead fronds. We trim palms to the palm's health, not scalped into a "hurricane cut," which actually stresses the tree.

What we don't do: stumps and power lines

Two limits, up front, because they matter and because plenty of tree ads gloss over them.

Stumps: we don't do stump grinding or stump removal — we don't have that equipment. When we take a tree down, we cut it as low to grade as we safely can, but the stump stays. If you want it ground out, that's a stump-grinding specialty with its own machine, separate from our work.

Power lines: we don't do any tree work near power lines. A tree or limb tangled in, touching, or close to overhead power lines is dangerous, specialized work that belongs with the utility or a line-clearance specialist — not us. If a tree is into the lines, call your power company. We'll take on the parts of a job that are clear of the lines and tell you plainly what isn't ours.

Debris haul-away and cleanup

Taking a tree down is only half the job — the other half is that it's now a mountain of wood and brush in your yard.

We haul off the debris: the trunk, the limbs, and the brush, cut down and cleared away so you come back to a clean yard, not a pile you now have to deal with. Tree debris haul-away is available on its own too — if a storm dropped limbs and you just need the mess gone, or another job left debris behind, we'll clear and haul it. After a hurricane, that cleanup is most of what yards need, and we take it away rather than leaving it stacked at the curb for weeks.

How much does tree removal cost in Houston?

Tree removal cost is driven by the size of the tree and how hard it is to get at safely. A small tree in an open yard is a modest, defined number; a large tree, or one tight against the house, over the roof, or hemmed in with no room to drop it, costs more because it has to come down in controlled pieces.

What moves the number: the tree's height and trunk diameter, how close it is to the house, fence, or other targets, access for getting equipment and debris in and out, and how much haul-away is involved. Trimming is priced by the scope of what's being cut. Remember stump grinding isn't included — the stump stays. These are ranges, not quotes — we look at the tree and give you a real number.
